Jewellery Care

Looking after your pieces

Plated jewellery lasts a long time if you treat it kindly, and wears through quickly if you don't. A few habits make most of the difference.

Last on, first off. Put jewellery on after perfume, hairspray, moisturiser and make-up, and take it off before you take anything else off. Cosmetics and alcohol-based sprays are what dull a finish fastest.

Keep it dry. Take pieces off before showering, swimming, the gym, or washing up. Chlorine and salt water are particularly hard on plating.

Clean it gently. A soft dry cloth after wearing is usually all it needs. If it needs more, warm water with a drop of washing-up liquid, a soft brush, then dry it completely. No silver dip, no polish, no abrasive cloths — they strip plating.

Store it separately. Pieces scratch each other in a jumbled box. A pouch each, somewhere dry and out of direct sun.

Stones. Cubic zirconia dulls with skin oils and hand cream rather than damage. A soft brush and warm soapy water brings the sparkle back.

Sensitive ears or skin

If you react to costume jewellery generally, our pieces may not suit you — plating does wear, and what's underneath varies. If a piece marks your skin, tell us and we'll refund you.
